Find Help, Find Hope!

Upcoming Family to Family Class this Fall

NAMI FDL, the local affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, will offer a NAMI Family-to-Family Education Class 2018, beginning September 10th through November 19th on Monday evenings at 6:30 in Cumming, GA.

NAMI Family-to-Family is a free, 11-session education program for family, partners, friends and significant others of adults living with mental illness. The course is designed to help all family members understand and support their loved one living with mental illness, while maintaining their own well-being. The course includes information on illnesses such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, major depression and other mental health conditions. Thousands of families describe the program as life-changing. The program is taught by trained teachers who are also family members and know what it is like to have a loved one living with mental illness.

Pre-registration is required. Class size is limited. We ask for a 2.5 hour/week, 11 week commitment to the series; each week’s topic is different.  All classes fit together to form a better understanding of brain disorders and help participants learn to cope more effectively with the burden of mental illness. A six month follow up study shows after attending the class, family members and friends are empowered and become a positive influence with recovery.
